Another round of high impact winter weather is slated to occur from Friday into Sunday.
This event is likely to equal or exceed that of the December 19, 2009 storm and may resemble the March 18-22, 1958 storm in terms of duration and snowfall. In that event, areas of Baltimore County received 4 feet of snow.
What you will read below will not be released publicly until Tuesday or perhaps Wednesday, and may contain some changes, but we are confident of our investigation thus far.
Our pre-public statement: The Foot's Forecast team in Baltimore, MD expects an historic snow event to occur during the weekend of February 5-6-7. Snow is likely to begin Friday and extend into Sunday.
Amounts across the eastern Mid-Atlantic may approach 24" by Saturday evening. Areas of elevation will see enhanced snowfall that may approach or exceed 30". Several computer models already project nearly 2.0 inches of liquid equivalent for this storm, which at a basic 12:1 snow to water ratio would easily produce 2 feet or more.
This would shut down most roads and interstates and result in states of emergency from Virginia northward to Massachusetts for several days. Meteorologists at the federal level

Southern Maryland Tips to Save Electric in the Winter
This winter sending your bills to the moon?
Here's some tips to cut them down a bit.
Space Heaters are actually cheaper. They burn 1000 to 1500 watts of power an hour. Compare that to common bedroom 15 amp breaker, or central heaters that use TWO 60 AMP breakers. (15,000 watts per hour) Yikes!
Room Isolation Shut the doors to ANY room you are not using. A space heater in a room with the door shut takes about ten minutes to warm up, and only 800w, on the low setting. Better than heating the whole house while you sleep right?
Dress Warmer- You can easily try on the wool socks and sweat shirt and keep the house at 60F instead of 80F. Come on, it's not summer, 80 degrees is not necessary.
Cook! The Heat from cooking and baking really makes a difference. Remember Momma getting hot flashes? I do.
Fireplace- Bring in the wood and get cozy. Even better is an indoor stove--they can generate more heat than your already expensive furnace!
Drafts- Seal up those windows and doors. Jack Frost will do anything to get in and take the money right out of your wallet.
Black Blinds? Okay, this one is a stretch...BUT installing black blinds and closing them during the day will attract the sun and dramatically heat up the room. If you don't want your neighbors thinking you've turned into the Adams family, just hide them on the back of the house.
Energy Efficient Bulbs- Of course, you should watch your lighting anyway, but these bulbs, though a little more expensive are GUARANTEED to always pay themselves off.

Here is our story aired last night on the three networks. ABC News 7, MyFoxDC 5, WUSA8. The Endangered Species Act take priority over human life, the right to protect your property and pollution of The Chesapeake Bay and it's watersheds. This 15 year battle to prevent our homes from sliding, human and animal fatalities as well as pollution of The Chesapeake Bay continues. It is getting more critical each day as the homes get closer to the edge. We have approximately 300 puritan tiger beetles (so they say) along Calvert Cliffs shoreline. Last count on our property, there were no beetles recorded. The The Endangered Species Act needs to be changed as well as the Critical Area Guidelines.

CALVERT COUNTY, Md. 20657 - When Bill Carmichael built his bay side home at the Chesapeake Ranch Estates part of Calvert County 18 years ago, the house was about 60 feet from the edge of the cliff. But the cliff's edge is moving closer to the house-- fast.
"Well, Thanksgiving evening, here, there was about a 10-food (wide) hot tub, here. We had a deck, out here-- 12 foot. And were all out here Thanksgiving evening, the kids and everybody, just looking at everything, and went back in, and woke up in the morning, and its gone," said Carmichael. "A whole 12 feet of it at one shot."
The cliffs along the Chesapeake Bay are naturally eroding. Homeowners want to reinforce the base and tops of the cliffs, but federal regulations which protect the cliff-dwelling Puritan Tiger Beetle are preventing that reinforcement. About 300 of the beetles are believed to be living on the cliffs.
Homeowners think the state should consider moving the beetles to a safer area.
"We had 11,000 beetles in our area, shoreline, in that particular area was the count. Today, we have "300," said Carmichael.
Homeowners argue safety should come first. Part of the cliffs collapsed a few years ago, killing a 9-year-old girl walking on the beach below. And now, about 300 yards of a roadway have been closed because of nearby cliff erosion. Fire and ambulance response time is now much slower to much of the community.
It isn't just buildings and humans that are at risk at the edge of the bay.
"Ah, we finished Thanksgiving dinner, and my sister's dog was missing. He had fallen off the cliff. And she did pass away. And we went to the vet, and there were two other dogs, that week, that had fallen off and had died, also," said resident Monique Hailer.
Cliff-side homeowners here are having difficulty selling and even insuring many of the homes. They have been pressing the county, state, and federal governments for years for some kind of help. So far, no help has come, and the cliffs keep eroding.
I would like to thank all those friends, family, citizens, news media and politicians who have helped the residents of "Chesapeake Ranch Estates" battle the beetles in Calvert Cliffs
House Minority Leader "Tony O'Donnell(R Dist 29C) offered legislation in 2005 that was passed that would allow residents to take action to protect there property. So far the State of Maryland has resisted any measures to slow the erosion problem down. The erosion problem extends further north of Lusby, where the puritan tiger beetle isn't the issue. St. Leonard, Randle Cliff and Scientist Cliffsare experiencing the same treat of there homes washing into The Chesapeake Bay! A special thanks to Southern Calvert by Guy Leonardfor a wonderful article depicting in depth the whole story! Southern Calvert Gazette. A town hall meeting will be held at the public library in late February! All are welcome to attend. The Calvert County Commissioners BOCC have submitted letterto our federal Representatives requesting support for The Chesapeake Ranch Estates and residents! One step foreard...
Calvert County News! SMECO to reduce energy charges
Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO) is filing an application with the Maryland Public Service Commission (PSC) to reduce its energy charges.
The filing was submitted in late December, and, if approved by the PSC, the reduced charge will appear on customer-members' March 2010 bills.
SMECO's new rates are based on forecasted power costs for March 2010 to February 2011, which are estimated to be $87.93 per megawatt-hour (MWh) for wholesale power supply. This cost is 16 percent less than the estimated costs the co-op submitted in its last filing in August 2008.
Calvert County News! Calvert County launched the program to help consumers cope with the high price of prescription drugs. The county is making the free prescription drug discount cards available under a program sponsored by the National Association of Counties (NACo).
"The NACO prescription discount card offers significant savings for both uninsured and underinsured residents of the county, and residents do not have to be Medicare beneficiaries to use the card," said Calvert County Board of County Commissioners President Wilson Parran. "Even residents who have insurance coverage can use the card when their plan does not cover a particular drug. Best of all, there is no cost to county taxpayers for NACo and Calvert County to make these money-saving cards available to Calvert County residents."
The cards may be used by all county residents, regardless of age, income or existing health coverage and are accepted at all of the county's pharmacies. A national network of more than 59,000 participating retail pharmacies also honors the Calvert County Prescription Discount Card.
Cards are available at all Calvert County libraries, senior centers, the Health Department and the Calvert County Department of Community Resources, located at 30 Duke Street in Prince Frederick. County residents can call toll free 1-877-321-2652 or visit www.caremark.com/naco for assistance with the program. To use the discount card, residents simply present it at a participating pharmacy. There is no enrollment form, no membership fee and no restrictions or limits on frequency of use. Cardholders and their family members may use the card any time their prescriptions are not covered by insurance.
