Sally Morris Greenwood, SC inspired me to write this post.
Sally wrote a post Easy 15 Minutes To The Table Meal For Four. Tonight I ventured to Walmart with the fear that all the food would be gone in Southern Maryland. I wondered what I could cook if were locked in the house for a few days? Hmm.. Lots of people or just two? I love to cook, but I don't like to cook for myself or just two. I love people around me with great conversation, food, drinks and music. I will slave all day without a complaint (most of the time).
I walked through Walmart tonight and wow was it crowded. As I looked through all the shelves, I noticed that all the inexpensive basic stuff was gone--eggs, milk and sale items. I found myself thinking: Is our economy that bad? While browsing through the bread isle, out of nowhere jumps this lady, grabbing 10 loaves of bread priced at 87 cents each (the only remaining loaves). She then scampered away with out a look behind her, her shopping cart wheels smoking in the distance. I became curious and started looking at passing carts, seeing milk, cheese and butter. Seeing the same with every eager shopper. Now, I stood in line for exactly 25 minutes and couldn't help looking at passing carts of the people in line. I think to myself --why is it that I'm considering all of this in a Walmart waiting line? The economy? The desperate? The fact that I am here too? Am I strange? ! Yep, the race was on for the basics.
Sorry to make this so long....... I thought I would write a post on a recipe that is GREAT, inexpensive and handy at anytime. My name doesn't sound Italian, married and divorced: Google: Barazzone! This is us!
My comment to Sally Morris:
I am a quick cook too!
So, I will take advantage of your family recipe. You made me think of a old Italian recipe I make all the time. I have to laugh. My daughter called me her first semester (small dorm room w/ 50 + kids per floor and 1 shared kitchen) to ask me how to make it. Now she is the smart one, but lacking common sense. Never cooked at home, although my son did. She calls all the time (now in a condo) and cooks for everyone (like her Ma..)
I then realized that my daughter makes this recipe all the time because she is on a limited budget as a college student. So, please pass this on to large families trying to make ends meet, college students, the homeless shelters, a family in need and anyone you feel needs an in expensive meal that tastes AWESOME!
Old Italian dinner in 15 minutes
PASTA AGLIO E OLIO (GARLIC AND OIL) My family calls is (OLIO)
1 c. Italian olive oil sometimes called "Poor man's spaghetti" A old Italian family friend told me this!
1 lb. linguine
1/2 c. olive oil
8 cloves garlic (fresh only) peeled and sliced thin. This give a great surprise when bitten into! I sometimes will add much more garlic because I love the taste of it. Salt & Pepper
1 tsp. parsley
Parmesan cheese ,freshly grated pepper, black
1 tsp. salt
Boil linguine with salt. Cook to al dente texture. Drain water and I keep the pasta (preferred stainless steel pot) keeps the heat.
Sauce: Heat oil in a small saucepan over low heat and very gently saute garlic until golden brown. Be careful it will burn easily. Toss sauce and pasta! Add fresh parsley/or basil. Add Parmesan cheese. Serve immediately.
Great addition for the heartier meal: Add chicken, pork, shrimp and or seafood.
For the healthier meal: add steamed broccoli, cauliflower (my favorite in this recipe) spinach, mushrooms, peppers or basically anything you can think of or any leftover veggies in the fridge.

The Star-Spangled Banner - Super Bowl XLIV
"The Star-Spangled Banner" is the national anthem of the United States of America. Star-Spangled Banner was made in Baltimore, Maryland, in July-August 1813 by flag maker Mary Pickersgill .
Carrie Underwood will sing the National Anthem The Star-Spangled Banner before this year's Super Bowl game between the Colts and Saints, making it the third year in a row that a a former "Idol" contestant will sing. The national anthem, always bring a chill or a tear. Here are some of the top Super Bowl national anthems. I had a hard time deciding who I liked best. I always loved Whitney Houston, especially "I Will Always Love You", and will have to say that among these clips, Whitney Houston is still my favorite. Mariah Carey, at Super Bowl XXXVI was a close second. I look forward to listening to Carrie Underwood, as I have her CD's too.
I hope this post inspires the great pride we have for our troops and our great country. A special thanks to all of you very courageous men and women out there are fighting for our freedom, risking your lives for ours and saving our country - GOD BLESS
Who is you favorite? If you have a clip of another Super Bowls anthem vocalist, please feel free to comment.

Did you know the pollution done to the Chesapeake Bay can be seen from space? NASA provided a picture of our beautiful Bay on Jan 31st 2010, exposing it's distruction. From the Susquehanna River, the dark brown is oozoing it's way south 50 miles almost past Annapolis. What is this ooze? Why it's chemicals, mud , and fertilizers..oh my! The Bay needs stronger "stormwater pollution control regulation". These regulations have been proposed by both Maryland and Virginia. They bay has given our communites so much life. It is the reason for many of our townships, jobs, and histories. We need to fix this before it gets any worse.

Every year Hallmark makes millions, HERSHEY'S bombards every store with kisses and heart chocolates, Ty or any other toy company takes the initiative to get adults to by cutesy plush animals for their special someone. Movies come out with a tangle of love stories. Couples are a little more affectionate, sometimes crushes or secret admirers are revealed. but when we take away all the commercialism, all the chocolate, all the roses, the root of Valentines Day is LOVE. It is a day celebrating LOVE. We actually have a holiday dedicated to love. Weird huh? But how did this happen? What is Valentine's Day really about? Truth is, noone is really sure.
Let's start with St. Valentine. In Rome, he was a catholic priest. (as one theory goes) During his term, or whatever you call it, the Romans decided that men without wives and children made better soldiers. So, the decided to out law marriage for all young men. Valentine, being the hopeless romantic that he was, thought this was unfair. He defied his emperor and married young lovers anyway. When Emperor Claudius II found out, he sentenced poor Valentine to death.
The second story is that Valentine, still a priest, helped tortured and dying christian prisoners escape from Roman jail. (they were held due to their beliefs) Again, Valentine was caught. He had fallen in love with the jailer's blind daughter. He sent her the "World's First Valentine" before his execution. On the letter it said, from your Valentine. He was sainted because it is said, he cured the girl of her condition right before his execution.
Well, I guess love is in the air, and in honor of our martyr saint I found some love story's centered around Sout
hern Maryland.

All the chocolate must be going to my head!
Well, here's another story about two local lovers. Ever heard of Indian Head, MD 20640? Wondered how it got the name? Legend has it that an Indian Princess of the Algonquin tribe, was set to be married to the Son of the Chief from a neighboring tribe. However, her heart told her no, and just before the marriage she fell in love with a young warrior from Virginia. They planned to escape, but were discovered. He was executed. It was to be a warning to all neighboring tribes. When the Europeans discovered it, they named the area Indian Head. So there you have it. I didn't say it was a happy love story. But interesting!

This is what my friend sent...
Another round of high impact winter weather is slated to occur from Friday into Sunday.
This event is likely to equal or exceed that of the December 19, 2009 storm and may resemble the March 18-22, 1958 storm in terms of duration and snowfall. In that event, areas of Baltimore County received 4 feet of snow.
What you will read below will not be released publicly until Tuesday or perhaps Wednesday, and may contain some changes, but we are confident of our investigation thus far.
Our pre-public statement: The Foot's Forecast team in Baltimore, MD expects an historic snow event to occur during the weekend of February 5-6-7. Snow is likely to begin Friday and extend into Sunday.
Amounts across the eastern Mid-Atlantic may approach 24" by Saturday evening. Areas of elevation will see enhanced snowfall that may approach or exceed 30". Several computer models already project nearly 2.0 inches of liquid equivalent for this storm, which at a basic 12:1 snow to water ratio would easily produce 2 feet or more.
This would shut down most roads and interstates and result in states of emergency from Virginia northward to Massachusetts for several days. Meteorologists at the federal level
